Hunt With Tripods

A tripod stand can be set up in the middle of whitetail deer habitat.

Hunting is a popular pastime for many people. Hunters use many ways to get close to and shoot their quarry, with one of the newest being the use of a tripod stand. There are many variations, but a tripod stand is a portable stand with three legs, a swivel seat, a guardrail and a ladder. A hunter is able to swivel in a 360-degree arc to spot and shoot deer. The stand is not as portable as a tree stand, but many can be moved with the aid of a helper, or can be disassembled, moved and reassembled in a new location.

Instructions

1. Determine the area you wish to hunt, then assemble the tripod stand in a spot that will give you as much of a shooting arc as possible.

2. Install the ground stakes or ground anchors according to the manufacturer's instructions to help stabilize the stand.

3. Attach a rope or lanyard to your unloaded rifle or bow and climb up the stand. Secure your safety harness to the stand, then pull your firearm up with the rope.

4. Load your firearm and sit still and wait for deer. The chair of the tripod swivels. Locate the animal you wish to shoot, then slowly swivel the seat in that direction.

5. Use the guardrail of the tripod to brace your rifle and steady it before making the shot.

6. If you are shooting a bow, stand up before drawing and taking the shot. Otherwise you risk hitting either the bow or the arrow on the guard rail, which can be very dangerous.
