Connect A Rain Water Tank To A Square Down Pipe

Adapters convert a square down pipe to a round opening.

Collecting rainwater reduces your water bill while conserving water. To collect rainwater, you need to collect rainwater in rain gutters and direct the collected water to a storage tank. A common problem arises when you attempt to connect the square downspout outlet of a rain gutter to the round water inlet of the storage tank. You need a special adapter, designed to convert a square outlet to a round inlet, that will not corrode from the constant exposure to rainwater. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the screws connecting the down pipe to the square outlet of the rain gutter with a 1/4-inch hex head adapter fitted into a screw gun.

2. Remove the hangers attaching the rain gutter to your house.

3. Connect the downspout adapter to the rain gutter. Slide the square hole of the downspout adapter over the square outlet exposed when you removed the down pipe. Push the adapter tight to the bottom face of the gutter. Run a 1/4-inch stainless steel self-tapping screw into each side of the adapter. Ensure each screw penetrates the flange of the rain gutter outlet.

4. Slide the pipe connecting to the water tank over the round end of the downspout adapter.

5. Secure the water tank piping to the downspout adapter with four equally spaced 1/4-inch stainless steel self-tapping screws.
