What Is A Seal On A Rain Diverter

Rain diverters are metal gutters or flashing pieces designed to redirect rainwater that falls on your roof. Diverters can prevent water runoff from falling onto entranceways or be used to direct rain water into capture barrels. Does this Spark an idea?

Doorway Diverters

Aluminum sheet flashing is commonly used to divert rainwater away from doorways and porch entrances. The metal sheeting is installed underneath a course of shingles with roofing nails, and the nail heads are sealed with roofing cement. This prevents water from seeping in past the nails and seals the shingles back down.

First Flush Diverters

A rooftop collects a lot of dirt and debris. Rain water harvesting systems use first flush diverters made of PVC pipe sealed together with pipe glue. The large pipe collects the first flush of rain and traps the dust and debris from the roof. When the pipe fills up the rest of the rain water is diverted to the capture basin.

Kick Out Diverters

Plastic or copper flashing rain diverters are used in places where sloping roofs attach to vertical walls to prevent water from seeping in through the joint. These are nailed in place on the roof under coating material and sealed by installing shingles on top of them.
