Plastic 55-gallon drums are used to transport liquid and solid materials. When transporting or storing the drums it is handy to lash them together to keep a cohesive unit, preventing rolling or tipping in individual barrels. When a group of barrels is lashed together they act as a solid unit with a different center of gravity, thus reducing the chances of tipping. Simple nylon ratchet straps, available at almost every home hardware store, are handy for hook these barrels together. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Push the barrels together so they form a square (if there are even numbers of barrels) or triangles (for odd numbered barrels). Wrap one of the ratchet straps around the center of all of the barrels and lock the tow end hooks together.
2. Tighten the straps by push-pulling on the ratchet mechanism. Some ratchet mechanisms require you pull the handle up to engage the ratchet's tightening motions. Bring the straps as tight to the barrels as possible.
3. Wrap up to three more straps around the barrels and tighten with the ratchet. As a general rule, the heavier the contents on the barrels, the more straps you should use. If the barrels are empty, use one strap.
