Clean Collected Rain

Harvesting rainwater is a simple way to make use of your natural resources. After you've developed a way to harvest your rain (such as collecting it in jars or developing a more complex system), the next step is to filter the water so it is safe to use in your home. Whether you plan to drink the water, use it for cooking or use it for cleaning, it's important to clean it first. This will eliminate any bacteria or mold that may be present in the water you have collected. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Pour the collected rain water into a large pot. If you have a large supply of rain water, you must do this in small batches.
2. Put the pot on the stove and set it to high heat. Let the water boil for 10 minutes to kill bacteria and other pollutants. Dirt and other types of solid organic matter are still present at this point, so it still isn't suitable for drinking.
3. Pour the water through a water filter. This filters out all of the dirt and other debris.
4. Store the water in a cool, dark place. The refrigerator is an excellent location, especially if you're only storing small amounts at a time.
