Connect A Water Hose To A Downspout

Connect a Water Hose to a Downspout

Attaching a water hose to a gutter downspout serves two main purposes. One is to improve the water drainage to a more desirable area than simply out the bottom of the downspout. The other is to use the water that comes out of the hose for beneficial purposes. These include storing water in a barrel, or using the hose to directly water flowers and other plants. You attach a water hose to a downspout by first attaching a water diverter to the downspout. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Connecting

1. Remove your downspout and place it on the side.

2. Place a water diverter on the downspout elbow that is situated right beneath the gutter. Attach the diverter to the elbow with sheet-metal screws.

3. Cut the top end of the downspout with sheet-metal shears so that bottom part of the water diverter will fit over it. Some water diverters come with a template. Place the template over the downspout and trace around it. Cut along the tracing with sheet-metal shears.

4. Slide the downspout onto the diverter. Secure the downspout to the diverter with sheet-metal screws.

5. Place the hose on the outlet where the water flows out of the diverter.

6. Secure the hose to the downspout with nylon or plastic ties.
