Use Rain Water To Flush Toilets

Don't flush clean water down the toilet.

Once a toilet flushes, what was once clean water automatically changes to black or gray wastewater. In fact, thousands of gallons of perfectly good drinking water flush down the toilets of American households every year. Unfortunately, not many people worry about wasted water until a drought or water shortage takes place. You can help put an end to wasted water in your household by collecting rainwater. Instead of flushing clean water down the drain, you can flush rainwater. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Collect rainwater in 3-gallon buckets. You can also use 5-gallon buckets but they may be heavier to lift.

2. Bring one of the buckets indoors when it's ¾ full. Set the bucket in a corner of your bathroom until needed.

3. Pour approximately 2 qt. water directly into the center opening of the toilet bowl instead of flushing. The force of the water forces the toilet to flush.

4. Pour an additional 2 qt. water into the toilet. This time, pour it slowly, to the side of the toilet. This fills the toilet without causing it to flush.

5. Continue the process of pouring rainwater from the bucket into the toilet instead of flushing. Bring a fresh bucket of rainwater in when the first is running low. Put the empty bucket out to collect more rainwater.
