Build A Wine Barrel Table

Used wine barrels make wonderful, one-of-a-kind tables.

Used wine barrels, which feature distinctive wood-grain patterns, can be utilized to make unique tables. You can use wine barrels to make tables of all sizes, from small side tables to larger picnic or dining tables. Because wine barrels are made out of oak or other quality hardwoods, they offer richly colored and textured grains that will add character to your table. Wine barrels also are an eco-friendly choice for do-it-yourself furniture projects. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Sand down the surface of the barrel with sandpaper and apply a coat of wood lacquer for a glossy finish.

2. Find a round or rectangular piece of flat wood that is 2 or 3 feet longer in diameter than the barrel. This piece of wood will serve as the top surface area of the table that will rest on top of one end of the barrel.

3. Prep this tabletop by sanding it and staining it with lacquer.

4. Allow the lacquer or paint on both the tabletop and barrel to dry.

5. Place the tabletop on top of the barrel. Make sure it is centered. Hammer the nails into the tabletop and into the barrel. Use at least eight nails evenly spaced around the diameter of the barrel.
