If you've ever had a broken water pipe or needed to work on your tank, then you know the importance of being able to pressurize the tank again. Fortunately, pressurizing your water tank takes just a few minutes and requires virtually no tools except for an air compressor. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Turn off the power to the water pump. Usually this can be done by turning the pump switch to the off position, or by turning off the power at the main electrical box for the property.
2. Open the drain valve and let all the water come out of the tank and lines. This valve usually is located right below the pressure gauge on the tank, and the drain piping usually runs outside or to a floor drain.
3. Check the pressure gauge to see how much pressure is still in the tank and how much you need to replace.
4. Locate the air valve on the tank. It can be on the side, top, or even on the pressure gauge piping, but it almost always will look like the standard air valves on tires. Take the cap off the valve and, with the compressor or manual air pump, pump air into the valve until you have 2 to 3 pounds of pressure less than what your system calls for in terms of "cut in" pressure.
5. Put the cap back on the air valve and turn the power to the pump back on.
