Get Rid Of Mold From Wine Casks

Mold thrives in moist damp places, which makes your wine cask a perfect breeding ground for the hideous spores. Mold living in your wine cask can ruin the taste of the wine and make you ill. The best way to keep mold from infiltrating your wine cask is to always clean the cask between uses. If mold does find its way into your cask, it can be easily removed with household products or supplies from your local wine store. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Wipe away any visible mold with a clean dry cloth. Look for mold around the bung, inside and outside of the wine cask.

2. Fill a bucket half way with warm water. Add one part sodium carbonate (washing soda) and one part citric acid. Citric acid can come in either a powder or liquid and can be purchased at wine stores. Use the brush to mix the cleaning solution.

3. Dip the brush in the cleaning solution and use it to gently scrub the areas where you see or smell mold. Continue scrubbing until all of the mold is gone. Let the wine cask dry completely in a dry open area.
