Homemade Garden Irrigation

A recycled hose can become a drip irrigation system.

An irrigation system is a method of watering your garden. There are different types of irrigation systems. All of the methods provide the same benefit but in different ways. A drip irrigation system allows water to drip slowly into the soil. This will disperse the water evenly to the roots of the plants. A homemade drip irrigation system can be made using a recycled hose. The hose will need only to have a decent connector. Any hole in the body of the hose is not a problem. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Lay out the hose. Use a large area of your yard and place the hose flat. Untwist any areas of the hose that may be twisted or tangled.

2. Make the holes. Use the hammer to pound the nail into the hose. You will need to break just the first half of the hose surface. Use the back of the hammer or your hand to pull the nail out when you puncture the hose.

3. Make more holes. Move the nail 2 inches over and repeat. Do this along the entire length of the hose.

4. Cap the hose. Place the end cap at the end of the hose. This will stop any water from running out of the end of the hose.

5. Move the hose to the garden. Lay the hose between rows of vegetables or across a flower bed. Check to make sure the hose is not twisted. All of the holes should be facing you about 1/4 of the hose width from the ground.

6. Secure the hose. Use the landscape pins to secure the hose to the ground. Place a landscape pin every 2 feet along the entire length of the hose.

7. Connect the two hoses. Hook the second hose up to your water source and turn the water on a low setting.

8. Check the hose. Carefully inspect the irrigation hose. Be sure that all of the holes have water dripping from them. If you find the water spraying from the hose turn the force of the water down.
