Installation Information For A Rain Water Pump

A rain water pump is an easy and efficient way to get water from rain barrels

Gardening can require a lot of water use to keep plants lush and growing. Many people have begun implementing rain barrels to catch rain water for use in watering gardens. However, once the barrel is full of rain water, it can be hard to gett it out efficiently. Installing a rain water pump is an easy way to remove water from your rain barrel and get it to the part of your garden that needs it the most. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the plastic screw top if your rain barrel has one. Cut around the opening of the rain barrel with a Stanley knife until the opening is big enough to insert the rain water pump.

2. Attach a string or nylon cord to the rain water pump for easier placement. While most rain water pumps already have a cord attachment for lowering and pulling the pump back up out of the barrel, there are a few that may not. Attaching an extra cord could also be a good backup in case the original cord breaks.

3. Place batteries inside rain water pump and turn on. Refer to instruction manual as to what size batteries the rain water pump will need.

4. Place the rain water pump into the barrel, using the placement cord. Keep the free end of the attached pump hose outside of the barrel. Carefully lower the rain water pump to the bottom of the barrel. If there is already rain water inside the barrel, it is fine to submerse your pump inside it.

5. Aim the free end of the hose at the area you want to water. The rain water pump will begin working, spraying out rain water from the barrel through the free end of the hose.
