Attach A Faucet To A Rain Barrel

A rain barrel is a plastic drum set outside for collecting rainwater. Water collected in rain barrels is useful for watering the garden, washing cars or any other outdoor project. When constructing a rain barrel, attaching a spigot or faucet allows you to hook up a hose and spray specific plants or objects. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Lay the empty rain barrel on its side. Insert a 3/4-inch bit into your electric drill and drill into the barrel at a spot 6 to 12 inches from the bottom. You should be able to reach inside the barrel and touch the hole.

2. Wrap the threaded bushing in one layer of Teflon tape. Pull the tape taut as you wrap it. Thread the bushing into the faucet, then screw the bushing and faucet into the 3/4-inch hole in the barrel.

3. Unscrew the bushing and faucet. Apply a bead of silicone sealer to the back of the flange portion of the faucet. Insert the bushing and faucet back into the hole in the barrel.

4. Reach inside the barrel and screw a 1/2-inch socket onto the end of the bushing. Tighten the socket by turning clockwise with the wrench.
