The benefits of rain barrels for conserving water are becoming well known. However, many homeowners dread the thought of a large plastic barrel sitting in the yard, visible to every passerby. If only the barrels were more attractive, more homeowners might consider using them. You can paint a rain barrel to make it more visually appealing. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Scuff the surface of your rain barrel with a fine grit sandpaper. Sandpaper with a grit rating of 220 works nicely.
2. Spray a plastic primer lightly onto the outside surface of the barrel. Allow the first coat of primer to dry, and apply a second coat.
3. Paint the outside of the barrel with exterior house paint. Use any color you want. A large or medium-size brush will cut down on painting time. A 6-inch brush works well.
4. Paint a second coat of exterior house paint once the first coat has dried, and allow it to dry again.
5. Use a pencil to draw a design or image on your barrel. Use acrylic paints with small brushes to fill in your designs.
