Rainwater can be collected in a plastic trash container.
Water is a precious resource and many areas of the world don't have enough. Rainwater is a free resource that can be harvested easily in your home. It can then be used in the garden, where its high nitrogen levels make it useful for plant growth or, alternatively, it can be treated and used for domestic purposes. To catch the rainwater, you need to make a rain trap. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Clean out the plastic trash containers using warm, soapy water. Cover each container with a sheet of mesh. This prevents debris from falling in the rain water. Place each container on the ground underneath the end of the roof guttering.
2. Use the ladder and a pole to clear the leaves and debris out of your gutters. If you do not have gutters, you can buy them from most home improvement stores. Employ a tradesman to fix it to the edge of your roof for you.
3. Attach a downspout from the end of the roof guttering into a trash container. For best results, secure the downspout to the wall of the house to prevent it from blowing away.
4. Cover full containers with a lid and store them in the shade.
