A rain collection tank will provide the ideal water for your gardening needs. The water delivered by the municipality contains chlorine which can be harmful to your plants. The rain barrel is also an environmentally friendly solution for areas that have limited water supply. Installing the rain collection system is easy if your home has a gutter and downspout system. Choose a location that is closest to your garden to reduce the amount of work moving the water. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Locate the gutter downspout that is closest to your garden.

2. Dig a two foot square hole down six inches directly below the downspout with the shovel.

3. Pour the fine crush-able gravel into this hole and compress with your feet.

4. Place two concrete blocks on top of this gravel. Position the rain collection tank on top of the blocks and mark the downspout 10 inches above the top of the tank.

5. Cut the downspout with the hacksaw horizontally. Remove the elbow off the cut end with the Robertson screwdriver. Fasten the elbow on to the end of the downspout with the screw you removed earlier.

6. Install the provided discharge pipe into the back of the rain tank and run the pipe so that it ends approximately four feet from your home.
