Create Summer Fun Activities For Kids Going Green

Summer Activities for Kids

Being outside is where kids can spend a lot of their summer so take advantage of the great outdoors to create 'going green' summer fun activities for kids. Going green means recycle, reduce and reuse and all of these concepts can be turned in to projects, crafts, and learning for kids.

Instructions

1. Summer Learning Fun for Kids

• Take advantage of being able to do fun activities outside and talk to the kids about plants, birds and water conservation.

• Water conservation and 'reuse' can come together by making a rain barrel and use the water throughout the summer to water the plants, garden, and trees in the yard. See 'Build a Rain Barrel' in the resource section.

• Go to a new park, the zoo, or a beach you have not been to before and see what is different about it compared to the park, zoo, or beach you usually go to.

• Then enjoy and explore.

Spend some time showing and talking to your kids about nature and teach them to treat their environment with respect.

2. Summer Activity Craft by Reusing Items

Reusing items is a large part of the 'going green' concept.

• When you pull out summer clothes from last year use the ones that do not fit anymore and make costumes out of them.

• Make hats, capes, turn pants into shorts, and be creative.

• The next step is to have the kids take the new props and put on a show. Let there imaginations take over.

• Be ready to be the audience.

3. Going Green Summer Fun Activity - How Things Grow

Planting seeds in a garden is a fun activity but to see how the seed actually grows is something you can easily accomplish.

• Soak a seed in water for at least three hours. Use a clear glass or jar and line it with paper towels.

• Place the seed between the glass and paper towel so it can easily be seen.

• Pour a small amount of water into the bottom of the container and place it by a window that receives a lot of sun.

• Add more water every day and watch how the seed grows roots, grows, and changes.

4. A Fun Summer Activity is a Party

• Reduce the amount of paper used for invitations by using online invitations to this summer fun activity for kids.

• Encourage friends to car pool to get to your 'going green' summer party.

• Have a party activity to make the table decorations. Have small paper cups, some black dirt, and individual annual flowers along with markers glue and assorted little items from around the house to decorate the flower pots. Use the finished flower pots as table decorations and a gift the kids can take home and nurture.

• Use non-breakable plates and glasses instead of paper ones to reduce the trash. Go to local garage sales to find an assortment of tableware. The kids can eat off them and then use them as a craft project.
