Rainfall can be recreated by snapping fingers together
Replicating the sounds of nature with our bodies is a great way to get people to think in unison. The sounds of rainfall can be recreated by a group snapping their fingers together. This is a good game to play with kids at the start of a project about the environment. Adults will enjoy it too. People spend so much of their lives talking; it can be refreshing to communicate, as part of a larger group, using only your body.
Instructions
1. Get a few people in the group to snap their fingers. They do not have to be in time with each other - in fact, it is better if they are not.
2. Ask the rest of the group to join in with the finger snapping. It will sound as if the rain is getting heavier.
3. Motion for the group to pat their hands on their thighs, then stomp their feet simultaneously. It will sound as if the rain is torrential.
4. Work your way back through the actions, to simulate the rain easing off. Get the group to stop stomping their feet, then go from patting their thighs to snapping their fingers.
5. Motion for some people to stop snapping their fingers, then for those snapping their fingers to do it more gently, until, finally, you bring the rainfall to a stop.
