Cut Roof Drip Caps

The roof drip cap is more commonly known as drip edge. It is used along the eave of any roof and is situated under the shingles to help water run off the roof and to the ground. Drip edge typically is made of aluminum, comes in 10- or 12-foot sections and is usually L-shaped. It is installed with aluminum roofing nails straight into the sheathing on the roof. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the area of the house to determine how many pieces of drip cap will be needed and exactly which ones will need to be cut.

2. Run a tape measure along the first piece of drip cap that will be cut and mark with a black marker exactly where the cut will need to be made. Run the mark straight across the entire width on both sides of the L-shaped piece.

3. Cut along the black mark with tin snips, keeping the cut as straight and even as possible. Cut both sides of the L-shaped drip cap straight through and pull the cut piece apart.

4. Measure the piece to make sure the proper cut was made and line it up on the roof to verify that it fits properly before installing it.

5. Cut all the other pieces the same way with the exception of the beginning pieces on each end. Cut those pieces at a 45-degree angle to ensure a tighter fit.
